Marilyn Burns

Marilyn Burns is a long-time resident of the Woodhill/Buckeye neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio, where she is a community advocate, a volunteer for the Healthy Eating, Active Living (HEAL) initiative, and a Ward 6 Precinct Committee Member. Ms. Marilyn has extensive training and experience in community health promotion and community leadership. She recently earned her certification as a Community Health Worker and Stanford Diabetes Self-Management Group Leader at Cleveland State University School of Nursing, and she is a graduate of Neighborhood Leadership Cleveland, a certified Matter of Balance instructor, and A Healthy You leader through Fairhill Partners, an organization focused on improving the well-being of older adults. Ms. Marilyn also trained as a Nutrition Navigator at Case Western Reserve School (CWRU) of Medicine to link early childcare providers to information on healthy eating and physical activity. She currently serves as a community representative on CWRU’s Institutional Review Board. Through these and other activities, she is continually reaching out to help others and advance her knowledge of what is needed to make a difference in her community. Ms. Marilyn is a recent recipient of the Civic Champion Award, a prestigious Vibrant City Award from Cleveland Neighborhood Progress, Inc., for her dedication to health equity and public housing tenants’ rights in the Buckeye Neighborhood.
